Wonderful introduction to contemporary printmaking

I will be teaching printmaking in my school this year and found this to be a terrific resource. It contains philosophical, historical, and technical information that will be useful to share with my students. The photographs and examples include many contemporary artists and approaches to printmaking. I especially appreciate the troubleshooting section and the information on safety and non-toxic printmaking. The chapter on digital printmaking acknowledges the usefulness of those techniques in printmaking today and presents important concepts for incorporating digital resources. Some books I have read are overwhelmingly technical or have poor illustrations and photos. I found this book to be just the right amount of clearly presented technical information to get my class going and with exciting examples to inspire my students. As a teacher with limited printmaking experience - enough to get in trouble - this will be a book I reference all year.

Great Buy and easy to comprehend!

This book is great! It was recommended by my undergraduate printmaking professor and I have been wanting it ever since. Now that I am a grad student learning more about the printmaking medium, this book has been very valuable. It has helped me to better understand the different techniques in all aspects of printmaking. It includes great images and step by step instructions. I recommend this book for everybody involved in printing--regardless of their level of expertise!

The Colors Duke, the Colors!

My previous printmaking book was almost entirely in black and white, and only had references to the old masters. Grant it, there is nothing wrong with the old masters, but this book is far more useful in safe alternatives to the cancer causing old techniques, and what's happening now in the print world.

So easy a caveman could do it!

This book features very concise coverage of Haskell, including its roots in lambda calculus. The examples are well chosen. They are either minimalistic (least amount of code necessary to explain a concept), or doubly educational (demonstrating not only Haskell, but elements of mathematics and computer science).

I especially like the lambda calculus interpreter (which shows parsing, and the art of crafting an interpreter). The numerous examples of sorting algorithms are excellent (the list of which can be seen by electronically looking inside this book at the table of contents).

The caveman comics are a hoot! They add a lot to the charm of this delightful little book.

The important topic of monads is very well presented.

Note that the code examples are in Hugs. (I would have preferred to see the examples in GHCi; but that's really a nit because the code examples are so nicely done, and are highlighted in shaded boxes to provide a visual cue to the reader.)

If you don't speak German, don't let that stop you from getting this book. I don't know German, but I can easily infer the gist of what's going on via linguistic inference based on the context. (If you know the domain, you'll easily recognize the technical words as being only slightly different from their English counterparts. English is linguistically closer to German than to French.) Moreover, code (like origami diagrams) is universal.

I hope Amazon will feature more Haskell (and other technical) books from around the world in order to make them more accessible. Good books are wherever you happen to find them, and they aren't all in English!

There are also new topics which depend on RSM in varying degrees: • Creep fracture is covered in Chapter 7, where methods for assessing creep crack initiation and crack growth are fully described. This chapter starts with a review of the basic concepts of fracture mechanics and follows with useful, approximate methods, compatible with the needs of design for creep and the availability of standard data. • Creep/fatigue interactions and environmental effects appear in Chapter 8.

-FEAR: Serving as a reminder that being an entrepreneur requires the courage to persist despite the presence of one's fears.

-Detail: Professionally (and even personally) I do my best to pay attention to detail. In the hubbub of daily life and work-place craziness it can be easy to forget its importance but the truth of the matter is its the attention (or lack-there-of) to detail that generates the basis for first impressions.

-Your Word: I couldn't help but say "hallelujah" after reading this chapter. The ease with which promises are made in the business world only to be cast aside never ceases to amaze me, which is why I'm always thrilled with those who do follow through.

All in all, there is a wealth of food for thought in these pages.

This a small book with very specific lessons that the author got from her experience as entrepreneur. I like it because is just experience. You read this in very short time, and the reading is enjoyable. You can go back to this book over and over.

A great book that will help you learn from one of the best entrpreneurs

Alicia is an incredibly wise and thoughtful entrepreneur. Her short and powerful book gives you a no-BS account of what really matters for founders and entrepreneurs. I'm an entrepreneur myself (Co-founder HireArt.com, YCombinator W12) and absolutely loved this little book.

Favorite parts:
-Chapter on perception (i.e., we have to understand that the way we are perceived by others is the reality they know about us)
-Chapter on choice and the need to step away from our own limited viewpoints to see a full picture about our situation (best quote "to a worm in horseradish, the world is horseradish")
-Chapter on actually sticking to your word. As an entrepreneur you have a million things to do and sometimes it's easy to forget to write back to an email or do a task. But the point is, if you don't have time, don't overcommit. Do less and do it well.

Great advice. It'll take you 20 minutes to read and is just a great reminder of what matters. The beauty of the book is that it says everything, but says it in the most succinct possible way. Straight to the point.
