James Patterson should be ashamed

This book is simply drivel and James Patterson should be ashamed and embarrassed. I've read 25-30 of Patterson's novels over the years including his excellent Alex Cross series and I normally eagerly await the next installment. Therefore, I was looking forward to another great read when I ordered this "co-authored" waste of time. Patterson is one of the great authors of his generation who writes tight compelling novels that are well researched and always full of suspense and believable characters. It is so sad to see him stoop to this level. I can't believe he even read this before allowing it to go to print never mind actually writing any of it. About halfway through the book I started to think it must be written tongue-in-cheek but sadly I was mistaken.
Thankfully, Coben, Sanford, Child, Elsner, Parker and a few other authors continue to take pride in their craft and maintain their integrity. I'm going to chalk this up as a $12 learning experience and never again purchase a novel that is co-authored. Hopefully anyone who reads this review will save the expense.

Don't waste your time or money

There was a time when Patterson actually wrote books. Now he farms them out to co-authors who create the most unbelievable plots and characters. The story is told in 1st person, which is somewhat interesting, except that the character - Ben - constantly makes reference to old movie actors and moving lines as he is shot at, beaten, and chased by Federal Agents and Russian assassins. The "plot" just skips along like many of todays " action movies" where anything goes. It will be the last Patterson book, I ever buy.

Few chapters in, throwing in the towel. Stupid, annoying movie/presidential trivia nonsense keeps breaking into my train of thought and little else is happening. Not worth my time. Another instance where Patterson is laughing all the way to the bank.

Charles Taze Russell -- a fascinating biography

Despite the few typos, which further editions will correct, I rate this one fully.

Fredrick Zydek has crafted a fascinating biography of Charles Taze Russell, one that is factual, comprehensive, and easy to read. Because he writes as an objective biographer and historian, Zydek has produced a work that will interest objective and dispassionate readers, as well as committed Bible Students or Jehovah's Witnesses.

Zydek competently invites his readers to examine Russell in all the various facets of his personality, warts and all, in the same objective way that fosters understanding and empathy. Russell is a hero of his times, but a human one, and Zydek's treatment of the human Russell is just as insightful as his treatment of Russell the theological phenomenon.

Although I knew much about Russell already, Zydek's book was eye-opening and enjoyable in many ways. It's a great read.

Russell is one of the most slandered men in history.

The "Christian" book stores, and the internet, are filled with long ago debunked lies about Charles Taze Russell. If there ever was a godly servant this man was one. He dedicated his entire adult life to the Lord's service. Due to the fact that he was winning over so many people to the truth message, he became the enemy of the more accepted Christian religions. Supposed "men of God" spent day and night attempting to smear Pastor Russell. NONE of the claims made by them were ever proven. They lied, distorted, and twisted. Sadly, these lies have been told so often by the likes of "Dr" Walter Martin, and others, that people believe them without investigation.

Russell was NEVER proven to have committed adultery, his wife stated under oath that he DID NOT cheat on her. Russell was NEVER "convicted" or credibily accused of perjury. Russell was NEVER credibly accused or charged with "child molesting." Russell did not swindle anyone out of buying "Miracle Wheat." He offered in public writing to give everyone who invested in the venture with him 100% of their money back. Not one person asked for it back.

As a religious leader Mr. Russell was a highly repected Christian Zionist. Far ahead of his time on the matter of Israel. He was invited to speak on many occasions to Orthodox Jewish groups. The current Prime Minister of Israel, Benhamin Netanyahu, spoke highly of him saying Russell had an "IMPORTANT ROLE as an early American advocate of Zionisim."

This book gives Russell a fair shake. The only problem is that the author had certain dates of events wrong and there are a few typos.

As a lifelong reader of the works of Pastor Russell and being a fan of his ideas about theology I could be accused of being biased. Even so here is my review. I'm impressed with the work Mr. Zydek has done to put this book together. It is a detailed, fair and objective biography of the life and times of Pastor Russell. I learned some things I didn't know. I think any Bible Student would benefit from reading it. I think Pastor Russell's critics should also read it. They would have a better understanding to base their conclusions on. They might even see reasons for change. And if there is anyone on the planet that has never heard of Pastor Russell, they should read it too, if only to broaden there knowledge about an important historical person and an interesting period of history, and also some important concepts about the Christian Religion.

Obviously, a projective test can never be more sensitive than the professional who uses it, but it is Davido's intention that the theoretical underpinnings and her presentations of case studies along with the drawings will help other practitioners deal better with the needs of their patients.

Drawing the Hand that Disturbs

Dr. Davido's new book is a unique contribution to the field of psychological assessment. It seems to tap an even deeper subconscious level than the more traditional House- Tree- Person drawing techniques. This format requires that the administrator have prior training in interpretation of psychological tests, but anyone with mental health training can be taught to utilize her technique to bring forth valuable material from a client. The four components involve a Childhood Drawing, a drawing of a Hand, and then the more powerful Hand that Disturbs. With children, an additional Free Drawing is also utilized. As with most projective or objective self-report tests, the skill of the examiner is paramount to the effective interpretation of the results. Dr. Davido demonstrates her remarkable skill and intuition in a number of cases... especially those involving childhood sexual abuse. The general orientation is one of psychoanalytic conceptualization, but the inferences advanced are clear enough for clinicians of any persuasion. Although this technique does not lend itself to rigorous statistical analysis and validity studies, its major function is to initiate a dialogue between therapist and client about issues that, here-to-for, have remained unconscious. I think Dr. Davido's literary style comes to light when she states: " magic operates at its best in the hand that disturbs, where the examinees are granted their wish to see their worst nightmares take shape in the form of a hand that metamorphizes into a monstrous creation, amputated fingers, twisted, gnarled, with pointed witch's nails or Dracula's grasp. Just as in fairy tales, the hand that disturbs is a frightened hand, one that rekindles what were thought to be the extinct fears of childhood." There is much more that can be said about this book, but the American reader soon realizes that this French viewpoint on projective drawing techniques will most certainly advance our range of understanding.

Paul Getty Museum's collection and on view at the Getty Villa, highlights the funerary practices and religious beliefs of his world. Through state-of-the-art technology Getty conservators, working with professionals from various other disciplines, sought to determine if the portrait over the mummy's face actually depicted the mummified remains, if precious jewels or amulets were present within the wrappings, and if the age of the mummy could be determined. The investigation was carried out without unwrapping the mummy.

The iconographic symbols decorating the red-painted shroud of Herakleides depict gods and goddesses as well as express a desire for an eternal afterlife. Such concepts, popularly associated with ancient Egypt, remained influential into the time of the Roman Empire. The book concludes by comparing the data from the mummy of Herakleides to similarly decorated red-shrouded portrait mummies in collections worldwide.
