Great Resource material!

I am a physical therapist. I bought this book as a quick reference for when I write up plan of cares for patients. The format is nice--it includes a description of the condition, epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, differential diagnoses, things to look for on an exam, appropriate tests, red flags, medical and rehab treatment/modalities, surgical interventions to consider and prognosis (this list is NOT all inclusive!) In a nutshell, it is a concise format with very useful information. I was pleased to see that the conditions are things I see a lot in the clinic. I started working in orthopedic rehab after a long break raising my kids, and needed some reference tools! I definitely found this book to be very helpful.

He is the general editor of Kent State University Press s Reading Hemingway series and a contributing editor to Cambridge University Press s Hemingway Letters Project. He is the author of Ernest Hemingway: Thought in Action and, with Mark P. Ott, the coeditor of Ernest Hemingway and the Geography of Memory (The Kent State University Press, 2009). He is the coeditor, with Carl P. Eby, of the forthcoming Kent State University Press title, Hemingway's Spain: Imagining the Spanish World.

The influential Italian architectural historian Manfredo Tafuri (1935--1994) invoked the productive possibilities of crisis, writing that history is a "project of crisis" ( progetto di crisi). In this entry in the Writing Architecture series, Marco Biraghi explores Tafuri's multifaceted and often knotty oeuvre, using the historian's concept of a project of crisis as a lens through which to examine his historical construction of contemporary architecture.

Mindful of Tafuri's statement that there is no such thing as criticism, only history, Biraghi carefully maps the influences on Tafuri's writing -- Walter Benjamin, Karl Krauss, Massimo Cacciari, and the architect Ludovico Quaroni, among others -- in order to create a portrait of one of the most complex minds in twentieth-century architecture and architectural history. Tracing an arc from Tafuri's first articles in the magazine Contropiano to the idea of contradiction at the center of the project of crisis, Biraghi cites Tafuri's writing on some of his contemporaries, including Louis Kahn, Le Corbusier, Robert Venturi, Aldo Rossi, and the "Five Architects" (Peter Eisenman, Michael Graves, Charles Gwathmey, John Hejduk, and Richard Meier). Tafuri's historical construction of the contemporary, Biraghi explains, is based on the idea that the past is open, providing the present with ever-changing and indeterminate form. There is no contradiction between Tafuri the historian and Tafuri the contemporary critic, only the greatest possible integration. The importance of Tafuri's interpretation of architecture goes beyond mere academic or historiographic interest, Biraghi argues; Tafuri's notion of the project of crisis is fundamentally important in understanding our present-day architectural condition

About the Author
Vivenne Shalom lives in Boston with her brilliant and sweet husband, Stephen, their magical son, Isaac, and their endearing Maine coon cat, Zoey. She has worked as a shipyard welder, a radio program producer, a customer service rep, and a children's drama teacher, and is currently working as a freelance graphic designer. Her heroes include Maya Angelou, Pippi Longstocking, and her parents, Albert and Sarina. Her favorite color is magenta.

Dusan Petricic was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and graduated from the Belgrade Academy of Fine Arts. Among the dozens of books he has illustrated, Dusan is the author or illustrator of 15 picture books for children. Also a widely published editorial cartoonist, he has received numerous awards for his illustrations and cartoons. Since 1993 he has lived in Toronto, working as a freelance illustrator and an editorial cartoonist for the Toronto Star.
